White Ships author Duncan O'Brien (right) with Bob Alder at Basically Books in Hilo (below). Bob was the organist aboard the Monterey during the 1970s, and his musical magic can still be heard at Hilo's historic Palace Theater. Hilo was Matson's first Hawaiian home port in the 1880s, and today is a regular stop for Matson freighters and many cruise ships.
